Warsaw Tiger-High School
Nick was nothing special in High School. He was a utility infielder that played not good enough to make the starting line-up at any of the infield positions. The way Nick got playing time was through pitching and he did most of his work in relief. As a Junior and Senior he made more starting appearances and had a few solid outings.
One best remembered would be when our biggest rival decided to bring their radio broadcast to our home field and broadcast our game live. He felt extra enthusiasm as he had a chance to wreck the Plymouth Pilgrims plans of broadcasting a victorious road game on rival turf. for six straight innings Nick missed Pilgrims bats as he was able to get through every frame without allowing a run. The added attention of the radio team and the listeners at home was the extra boost he needed to imprint his own will upon the game that day and the Tigers sent the Pilgrims back to Plymouth rock with nothing to be thankful for.

Anderson University Raven
In college Nick saw his velocity increase but spent the first few years working on controlling his new found zip. Freshman and Sophomore year were especially difficult as he struggled to learn how to complete at a higher level where hitters were much more patient and lack of control was constantly causing high pitch counts and having to pitch from behind in the count. Shortly after it was suggested that he move to the bullpen where he could focus his energy into a few innings instead of stretching his outings multiple innings. This is where Nunez really found his groove.
The smaller pitch count outings allowed for shorter rest periods and more time being able to spend programming good muscle memory in his delivery. This scheduling change was exactly what Nunez needed as his velocity rose once again and the repetition of throwing more regularly gave him a routine that drastically increased his command. In a few short outings early his Junior year Nunez has solidified himself as a lights out, slam the door closer, and he loved it. He quickly became a work horse in which Coach Pressley could count on to finish a game no matter how small the lead. Nunez owned the 9th inning and the more tense the game situation the more excited he was to pitch in it.
